| AUSTRALIAN PILATES METHOD ASSOCIATION (APMA)
The Pilates Method of exercise aims to improve the core strength of the body, focusing specifically on the pelvic floor deep abdominal and deep back muscles. With these muscles more active when the body moves, the spine and pelvic stability can be greatly improved. Pilates is a movement therapy that provides assisted movement with low loads through joint range and is an excellent form of exercise prescription that includes weight bearing throughout the body.
In an APMA accredited Studio Pilates exercises are prescribed on an individual basis to strengthen the joints and improve joint range and flexibility. Pilates is an excellent form of exercise for most injuries/pathologies as exercises can be adapted to the needs of individuals whilst still remaining challenging. Strict guidelines are implemented by the APMA Council to ensure all members stay updated in their skills and knowledge base.

Osteoarthritis is a disease affecting joints. Of all CAM therapies, chiropractic continually rates high among utilisation and satisfaction surveys. Not only because spinal adjustments and manipulative therapies have been shown to help arthritis patients, but because chiropractors fundamentally dedicate most of their university education to 1) manually examining joints, of the spine and the extremities 2) physically treating joints without drug or surgery 3) diagnostically imaging joints, 4) analysing imaging of joints, 5) discussing cases where diagnosis warrants referral for treatment by other specialties 6) presenting advice on factors influencing co-management of arthritis, such as lifestyle, exercise, nutrition either as an alternative to, or complementing, medical options.
